Population and geography

Lyon, capital of the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region (69), it is located at the confluence of the Rhône and the Saône, it has a strategic position in Europe, since it is a crossroads between the Mediterranean, the Alps, Auvergne and on an axis connecting northern Europe.
Its municipal population was 516,092 inhabitants in 2017 (3rd most populous city in France) and is part of the urban area of ​​Lyon with a population of 2,326,223 inhabitants in 2017 (2nd in France behind Paris).

Transport


Ideally located, Lyon is served by the A6, A7, A42, A43, A47 and A89 motorways, among others.
The urban transport network of the agglomeration is the second in France after Paris in number of travelers transported daily.
The bus network includes 123 regular lines, 4 metro lines, 2 funiculars and 6 tram lines in particular.
The rail network is not to be outdone since the city has six stations including three TGV stations (Lyon Part dieu, Lyon Perrache and Lyon Saint Exupéry).
The city also has its Lyon Saint Exupéry international airport, as well as Lyon Bron for leisure and business aviation.
